Does feeling guilty or uncertain about new wellness and fitness practices hold you back? Do you ever feel guilty about spending time and money on your self-care? If you do, know that you are not alone.

It is crucial to prioritize yourself and your self-care. A wellness practice is a great way to start filling your cup. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup.

It's well worth the time to self-reflect on why you feel guilty about taking time for yourself, especially before you become physically and emotionally exhausted. As a yoga teacher, I often see women showing up to yoga as a last resort on their healing and wellness journey.

I recommend seeking guidance way before you reach the point of last resort. Sooner is always better than later. I've never heard a yogi say they wished they had waited to start their yoga practice, but I have heard everyone say they wished they had started sooner!

At its core, yoga is a healing practice. It is a way to reconnect with yourself both physically and emotionally. Yoga helps you decompress and relax, offering a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Overcoming Common Barriers

Many women feel guilty about spending time away from their families and spending money on self-care. They also feel unsure about the benefits of wellness practices. Due to outdated views of spending money on oneself as selfish and limited budgets, they prioritize the needs of their families.

But at what cost? The cost is your health and well-being. When you are unable to be fully present and available to your family, it creates more guilt and stress. There is a better way. Taking care of yourself can be an empowering journey, and many options fit into the budget of your household.

Embrace Self-Care

The benefits of a wellness practice, such as yoga, will last for years. First, you have to decide that you are worth the investment.

Feels Guilty About Taking Time Away from Family

    • It's natural to feel this way, but remember that taking care of yourself means you can take better care of your loved ones. Carve out small pockets of time for self-care, and gradually build up as you see the benefits.

Worries About Spending Money on Herself

    • Think of self-care as an investment in your health and happiness. There are many affordable ways to practice self-care, from free yoga classes online to budget-friendly wellness activities.

Finds It Hard to Unplug from Work

    • Start with setting boundaries. Even short breaks for mindful breathing or stretching can make a significant difference. Prioritize activities that help you unwind and reconnect with yourself.

Unsure About the Benefits of Wellness Practices

    • Incorporate relaxing activities into your routine, such as yoga, baths, or reading. Make relaxation a priority, not a luxury.

    • Acknowledge these feelings and take steps to address them. Self-care is not just about pampering yourself but nurturing your overall well-being.

Transforming your guilt into self-care is about shifting your mindset. Recognize that self-care is not selfish; it's necessary. By investing in yourself, you enhance your ability to care for others and live a fulfilling life.
